This female cat had short, velvety, and curly fur. Named "Ursula," this cat is considered the known ancestor of the German Rex breed.
Curly-coated offspring were observed among Ursula's kittens, and Dr. Scheuer-Karpin began a conscious breeding program to preserve and develop this unique genetic mutation. As a result of these efforts, the German Rex breed began to be officially recognized. The German Rex gets its name from rabbit breeds with a similar fur structure (Rex rabbits).
